Wimbledon begins this Monday June 27, 2016! The men’s draw will be missing Rafael Nadal this year due to a wrist injury but still looks to be an exciting tournament. Keep an eye on Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev this Wimbledon, they could do some damage. They have both been in great form entering the grass court season. Thiem won the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany defeating Roger Federer and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the semis and finals. Zverev also defeated Federer in the semis at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany before falling to Florian Mayer in the finals.
Top dogs Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Federer are all looking to take home the Wimbledon trophy this year. Murray took home his record breaking 5th Queens Club title this year, while Djokovic played only one match on grass which he lost 3-6 5-7 in an exhibition against Belgian David Goffin. As I said above Federer will be coming off some losses to Thiem and Zverev along with coming back from knee surgery. Even with current form taken into consideration you can never fully count out the 7-time Wimbledon champion.
Who do I think will win this year? I’m taking Andy Murray for the title. Murray recently added Ivan Lendl back to his team to improve his chance of winning this year. I never understood why this partnership ended in the first place after having so much success. I expect them to pick up right where they left off, winning grand slam titles.
